Workspaces

A workspace is XClaw's top-level isolation boundary. Each workspace has its own model configuration, Skills collection, automation rules, and sessions. Think of it as a "project" — a frontend workspace might default to Claude with React-related Skills, while a data analysis workspace uses GPT-4o with SQL and visualization Skills.

This isolation is intentional. Different types of work need different Agent setups, and forcing a shared configuration only creates noise.

Workspaces also control theme and appearance. Each can have its own color scheme — this isn't just aesthetics. When you have multiple workspaces open, visual differences help you instantly recognize which context you're in.

All sessions under a workspace share its Skills and model settings, but individual sessions can still temporarily override these defaults.

How to

At the top of the left sidebar, you'll see the current workspace name. Click it to open the workspace switcher, where you can see all existing workspaces and create a new one.

When creating a workspace, give it a recognizable name (like "Frontend Project" or "Data Analysis"), then configure its default model and Skills in the workspace settings. Each workspace's settings are independent, so configure freely.

Want a different color for your workspace? Open Workspace Settings > Theme and pick a color scheme you like. This is especially handy when you have multiple workspaces open — different colors let you instantly know which project you're in.
